As far as I can figure it, the trick to getting those darn Favicons to show up is to make sure the exact name of the file is favicon.ico when placed into the root directory of your site.
I have had trouble with these showing up in the past and have seen a lot of complicated solutions floated around for how to fix the problem. I added two of them to two sites tonight and after I changed the names of the files in the root directory they showed up right away.
Just passing on the findings. Hope it helps someone out there.
